Hi, I’m Deepak, and recently I went on a Haridwar and Rishikesh trip with my family.
These two destinations are not just tourist places – they are a blend of spirituality, adventure, and peace. In this blog, I’ll share our family experience along with a day-wise itinerary, travel tips, and must-visit places, so that you can plan your own trip with ease.
Why Visit Haridwar and Rishikesh?
- Spirituality: Both cities are situated on the banks of the holy Ganga River.
- Temples & Aarti: Haridwar is famous for Har Ki Pauri Ganga Aarti, while Rishikesh offers soulful vibes at Triveni Ghat.
- Adventure: Rishikesh is known for rafting, trekking, and yoga retreats.
- Family-Friendly: Safe, budget-friendly, and full of cultural experiences.
How to Reach Haridwar and Rishikesh
- By Air: Nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun (approx. 35 km from Rishikesh, 40 km from Haridwar).
- By Train: Haridwar Junction is well-connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, etc.

My Family Trip Itinerary
Day 1 – Haridwar (Spiritual Beginning)
- Morning: Reached Haridwar and checked into a family-friendly hotel near Har Ki Pauri.
- Afternoon: Visited Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi Temples (used the ropeway, which kids really enjoyed).
- Evening: Witnessed the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri – an unforgettable experience with diya lamps floating on the river.
- Dinner: Enjoyed simple and tasty food at Hoshiyarpuri Restaurant.
Day 2 – Haridwar to Rishikesh (Peaceful Vibes)
- Morning: Took a cab to Rishikesh (around 1 hour).
- Afternoon: Visited Lakshman Jhula & Ram Jhula. My family loved walking on the bridges with river views.
- Evening: Experienced Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat. Compared to Haridwar, it was more peaceful and less crowded.
- Dinner: Relaxed in a riverside café (The Sitting Elephant – family-friendly place).
Day 3 – Rishikesh (Adventure & Nature)
- Morning: I went for river rafting (family skipped as kids were small). For families with older kids, rafting is a must-try.
- Afternoon: Visited Beatles Ashram – clicked lots of creative graffiti photos.
- Evening: Short trek to Neer Garh Waterfall. The kids loved it.
- Night: Last shopping stop at Rishikesh Market for souvenirs and wooden handicrafts.
Best Time to Visit Haridwar & Rishikesh
- October – March: Pleasant weather, best for sightseeing.
- April – June: Warm but rafting season is open.
- July – September: Rainy season, rafting usually closed.
Budget for Family Trip (Approx)
- Hotels: ₹1500 – ₹3000 per night.
- Food: ₹400 – ₹800 per day (for a family of 4).
- Travel: ₹2000 – ₹4000 (local taxis & transfers).
- Activities: Ropeway ₹100-200, Rafting ₹600-1500 per person.
Travel Tips from My Experience
Carry light cotton clothes &
comfortable footwear.
Keep some cash as digital payments may not work everywhere.
Book rafting & ropeway tickets in advance during peak season.
Respect local traditions – avoid alcohol and non-veg near ghats.
Conclusion
My Haridwar and Rishikesh trip with family was a perfect mix of spirituality, fun, and togetherness.
Haridwar gave us the sacred and cultural experience, while Rishikesh added the peace and adventure element. If you’re planning a trip with your family, I highly recommend combining both destinations for a complete experience.
Deepak’s Recommendation: If you have 3–4 days, visit both places together. Start with Haridwar for the spiritual energy and end in Rishikesh for peace and adventure
